The student takes a test that is modeled after the California State Test (CST) to ensure proper placement in Optimus courses. The student’s school grades and standardized test results should be provided for our database.
For students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, or 1st grade, the assessment is done face to face with a teacher who will check English and math skills (such as phonics, letter and word recognition, sight words, pronunciation, counting, addition and subtraction, etc.). The assessment takes approximately 30-45 minutes and is followed by 10-15 minutes of feedback from the teacher to the parent. An assessment for students in these grades is $50. If you decide to sign up for a class or the After School program afterwards, your assessment fee will be credited towards your first tuition payment.
There are two separate computerized assessment tests available for students in or above 2nd grade, one for Math and one for Language Arts. Each test takes approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours to complete. Tests are $30 for one or $50 to take both tests. If you decide to sign up for a class or the After School program afterwards, your assessment fees will be credited towards your first tuition payment.
At Optimus Learning School, we know that it is extremely difficult for students to choose a major or job for the future. To help our students with this issue, we have our students take three different personality or aptitude tests. These three different tests examine a student’s characteristics and interests and matches them with a major or job field that fits their personality. For $50, students can take all three tests to see what personality they have and what job they would do well in.
In cases where parents only wish for their student(s) to attend our enrichment classes (i.e. book club or writing club) and want a pick-up service in addition to enrichment classes, pricing varies. Enrichment class prices including pick up fee are as follows: 1 enrichment class is $200/month (i.e. book club on Tuesdays), 2 enrichment classes/month: $380 (i.e. book club and writing club on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Optimus now offers two options to make private lessons more affordable for you. If you sign up for 50 hours of one-on-one instruction in any subject and pay upfront, you will receive a 5% discount on the total tuition. If you sign up for 100 hours of one-on-one instruction in any subject and pay upfront, you will receive a 10% discount on the total tuition. For more information, please read our blog.
Private group lessons are a great choice for students who want to take class with friends, classmates from school, or siblings/cousins. Also, this option gives you the discussion benefits of a group class without the discomfort of learning with students you don’t know. Private one-on-one lessons start at $40 an hour. However, if you bring other students to join your private lesson, each of you will receive a discount on the hourly rate (see the chart below).
Groups | 1 Student | 2 Students | 3 Students | 4 Students |

Kinder-6th Grade | $40 | $30 each | $25 each | $20 each |
7th-8th Grade | $45 | $35 each | $30 each | $25 each |
9th-12th Grade | $50 | $40 each | $35 each | $30 each |

When students have the day off from school (such as holidays, teacher prep days, winter/spring break, etc.), we are usually open. We provide daily care from 6:45am-6:30pm for a $55/day charge. Students are expected to bring their own lunches from home on non-school days. But, if necessary, we can pick up lunch for your child if you are not able to pack a lunch. When you drop your child off in the morning, please provide him or her with $10 and immediately let the teacher know that your child will be needing lunch that day. We play interactive games (no electronics) and do crafts in the morning, have lunch at the park at noon, and watch a movie in the afternoon. Students also have some time in the afternoon to read or work on long-term school work.
We offer 10% off tuition if you sign up for our summer program before March 31st. We are offering a sibling discount to families who have 2 or more kids they want to enroll. The first sibling will receive 10% off tuition, the second sibling will receive 15% off tuition. For more information, please read our blog.
During the summer, Optimus provides busy parents with an early drop off service. This service allows parents to drop off their student at Optimus in the morning at 6:45 AM. During the morning hour, students will have time to review their summer homework, read and prepare for their summer classes. This service is an additional $25 a week.
Students who are in Kindergarten through 6th grade have the option to enroll in any of our elective classes during the summer. These summer elective classes include Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Chinese, Korean, Art, and Computer Coding. The classes are scheduled during the 3:30 - 6:30 pm period and included with Schedule II and Schedule IV tuition. If you want to sign your child up for an elective class during the summer and your child doesn’t attend the full day program (Schedule II or Schedule IV), each elective class would be $100 for 4 weeks.
* Any additional elective class will cost $50 for 4 weeks. (Students with Schedule II or Schedule IV)
* Only applicable to K-6th Graders
Anyone looking to delve deep into the world of computer science (also known as “coding”) must go beyond the text. While coding sounds less intimidating than its actual title, it should be noted that the subject involves much more than just typing lines of code. A software’s development can usually be broken down into three main stages: planning, coding, and implementing. Each stage can be difficult on its own but it’s possible to replicate these in a way that anyone can do it. Younger students, in particular, can get caught up in the glamour of coding. Therefore, we tackle it with the most complete and rewarding course possible. Instead of strictly syntax-based lessons, we will break down the course into three sections mirroring an actual software project.

Our SAT summer course is perfect for students who are dedicated to improving their scores! They start by taking an official College Board SAT practice test as their initial assessment to establish their starting score. Then, here’s what you can expect each week:
Each week, students are introduced to test strategies that will help them ace the test. Instead of reviewing all of the questions from the weekly practice tests, students focus on reviewing only the questions that they missed. This saves time and frustration. In addition, our digital practice test format allows us to pinpoint the skills associated with the questions they are missing so that we can give them extra practice in their areas of weakness. At the end of the 8-week period, students will take their final assessment to see how much their scores have improved!
*If a student is unable to achieve the guaranteed score after taking the full 8-week summer course and passing it, he or she will be able to attend FREE Saturday SAT classes through December of that same year. We guarantee that scores on the final assessment will increase by the following amounts:
Initial Score | Guarantee |
---|---|
Below 1,000 | 300-point increase |
1,000-1,200 | 200-point increase |
1,200-1,400 | 150-point increase |

It is common policy at most learning centers to charge a registration fee upon signing up your son or daughter. At Optimus, we believe the quality of our services speaks for themselves, and we see no need to charge you a nonrefundable, upfront fee. We pride ourselves on the fact that our clients can test our services with no financial obligation. To take it even one step further, if at any point you are unsatisfied with our service, you can discontinue your student’s enrollment at Optimus and receive a prorated refund with only two weeks’ notice. However, refunds are not applicable to students who are enrolled in our Summer Program or our monthly classes (i.e. book club class, enrichment class). Furthermore, monthly classes (i.e., book club class, enrichment class) are not subject to refunds, credit or, rescheduling.
Tuition payments are due in advance of the month you are paying for. For example, payments for next month's classes are due by the last week of this month. Any payments that are not made by the 3rd of the month will be considered past due and will be charged a late fee of $30.
Please notify us by a phone call or text as soon as possible if you know your child will not need to be picked up due to absence or parent pickup. We understand that parents might accidentally forget to notify Optimus so we won’t penalize you for your first absence without notification. However, your child may have been the only child we needed to pick up that day, or our driver has to go to the admin office to see if your child came to school while other students are waiting in the van. For this reason, every absence without notification after your first will be charged a $10 driver fee. More than three absences without warning may result in removal from our pickup service. We appreciate your understanding in this matter and thank you for notifying us as soon as possible.
While every parent, of course, wants the best for all of their children, we know that the financial burden of sending all of your little learners to an after school program at the same time can become substantial. At Optimus, we are willing to shoulder some of that burden for you. We welcome and encourage you to bring all of your children by offering a 10% discount on your second child’s tuition and a 15% discount on your third child’s tuition. These discounts will be applied to the lesser amount. Do you have even more than three children? No problem! Arrange a meeting with the director and we will handle your situation personally!
Optimus thanks the American troops for all they do! To show our appreciation and support, all active-duty military members receive a 5% discount on their child’s tuition!
* Not valid with other discounts.
Many afterschool and tutoring programs require students to sign an enrollment contract.
At Optimus Learning School, we do not have enrollment contracts. However, we do require that you provide us
notice when you decide that your child will no longer be attending Optimus. Please give notice in writing or
in-person to the Assistant Director by the 15th of the month prior. If we are not provided notice,
you will be subject to pay up to 1 month of tuition to cover the costs we incur as a result of late notice.
If you decide not to pay, your account will be referred to a third-party collection agency. This cancellation
policy applies to all classes (i.e., group, private, enrichment) and the afterschool program.
